Recurring cat skin problem, vet says it's not mange? Pictures Included.?
Hello, My cat stats: Type: Norwegian forest cat Gender: Female Body Type: Spayed Personality: Feisty Wander Distance: Indoor cat My cat used to be a stray that would followed me one day, and decided to stay by my door until I let her in. She was filled with fleas, tapeworms, was bony and had tangled hair. I took her to the vet, she got all of her shots. Eventually after a long battle we got rid of the fleas, tapeworms etc. etc. That was 4 years ago... Cost me alot of money to save her :P But it was all worth it! I love her so much! She's a spoiled girl now, in a good way. :) But I noticed every now and then she gets this skin problem.. I thought it was mange but vet says it was not. I have to keep going to the vet for a recurring problem that she keeps having on her skin. She gets the Vetalog injection. I believe this is to lessen inflammations and itching. This does help when ever she gets this injection. This makes her flaky skin and bumps go away. Anyhow, this is what she gets on her skin every now and then. They go away and then eventually come back. They feel like small bumps, they are crusty, and there is usually flaky skin around it. This usually occurs around her neck or the lowest point on her back just above to her tail. 1) http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x144/kitten_meow/Skin1.jpg 2) http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x144/kitten_meow/Skin2.jpg 3) http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x144/kitten_meow/Skin3.jpg 4) http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x144/kitten_meow/Skin4.jpg My vet says it's allergies and said to change my cat's diet. I have changed my cats diet 3 times in the course of 4 years. -When I was uneducated in cats health she was on Meow Mix (bad I know) She used to throw up alot on this food. - I eventually changed to Nutro Max Cat Roasted Chicken Flavor She kept getting those bumps and flaky skin and yeah she used to throw up alot on this food too. I took her to the vet, and since the Vet said it was allergies. I decided to read online to see what information I could find, I found out that that grains are likely to cause allergies ( But I know some cats maybe allergic to something else). So I changed her to a no grain diet. Which was... - Innova Evo which has high-quality meat (chicken and turkey) as the main pet food ingredient, and is completely grain-free. The bumps went away, and the flaky skin was no longer there for like 4 months, and then to my un-satisfaction they came back. And I don't feed her table scraps either. Well, I was wondering if any of you guys had this problem with your cats, or if you ever encountered anything like this. Is this really allergies or is it something else? Any clue, suggestions? Experiences similar to this? I will keep changing her diet, but I just find it odd that the bumps and flaky skin comes and goes throughout the year. Even though she's on the same food. It really puzzles me. Best Regards! Oh thank you everyone, I really liked every single answer, I will try them all, I will change her vet plus I will get her topical sprays and ointments. :) Also thank you for sharing your experiences they were very informative and interesting to hear. :)
